Photographer Spotlight: Interview with Isabell Pösslwww.sleeklens.com
Welcome to another Episode of Photographer Spotlight, this time I had the great honor to step inside the world of Isabell Pössl from Austria, who specialized in dog photography but also shows excellent wildlife images. In this exclusive interview, you’ll find out what it is that makes her so good in her field.
1) Tell us about yourself, where are you from? How and when did you get into photography?
My name is Isabell Pössl and I was born on April 12th, 1977. I live near Linz in Austria with my husband, our 3 children, and 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I have always been interested in photography and I have always dreamed of being a professional photographer, but my dream didn’t come true as a teenager.
Although I didn’t deal with photography very intensively, it has been a hobby all my life.
As my children are older now, I have more time for myself and so I bought the first reflex camera in April 2016 (a Canon Eos 60d)
Since then things took its courses and I started attending workshops, coachings and I tried to get to know more about photography.
4) How much time do you spend on photography on average? I spend a lot of time on photography because I really like it. If I had to tell you the hours, it would be at least two hours a day
3) Which gear do you mainly use / What is typically in your camera bag?
At the moment this is my equipment: Canon Eos 60d, Canon 70-200/f2.8 L IS, Canon 200/f2.8 L II USM, Canon 50/f1.8 USM and an older lens Canon 70-210/f3.5-4.5
5) How important is post-processing for you? Can you tell us what kind of postprocessing you typically do?
In my opinion, post-processing is important to optimise a photo and I usually use Photoshop. In the beginning, post-processing was very formidable for me and I thought I would never really get along with it, but in the meantime it is fun.
6) What’s the most challenging part about being a photographer? The most challenging photos are action photos. There are some photographers who have specialized on that kind of photos and I really admire their work.
7) What is the favorite photo you took and why? Honestly, I don’t have a favorite photo. I always have favorite photos after each shooting.
8) Who or what inspires you to do what you do and why? Definitely my dogs! I love taking photos of animals. Every animal is a new challenge and makes the job diversified. Additionally, you have to consider weather conditions, light and the perfect setting of each animal.
9) Is there an animal species you would love to photograph? There are a lot of species I want to photograph. Let alone all the different species on a safari trip in Africa, which is one of my greatest dreams.
10) What are your future photography goals? I don’t have great plans at the moment, but I’d like to make a short tour through Germany next year to take some beautiful photos in the moorland and to meet and get to know some German photographers. (The journey to Africa is still a dream )
Julian Rad is a self-taught award-winning wildlife photographer, who was born in Vienna, Austria in 1991. When he bought his first camera at the age of 20, he found an expression for the fascination he had about nature & wildlife. He already had many publications in national and internation magazines and newspapers (New York Post, Daily Mirror, Daily Express, The Times, GEO, Digital Photographer Magazine...). He has won several photo competitions such as the comedy wildlife photography awards in 2015.
