Welcome to another Photographer Spotlight interview! Today I am very excited to introduce you to Peter Zajfrid, a very talented landscape photographer from Slovenia, who has agreed to answer a few questions about his photography. In this exclusive interview, you’ll discover what it is that makes him so good in his field.
1) Tell us about yourself, where are you from? How, when and why did you get into photography?
I’m a 40-year-old amateur photographer from Ruse, Slovenia. I work full time as an electrician in the field. I would call my self a classic landscape photographer. I love to get up early for sunrises and also for the magic of the sunsets.
I started out in summer of 2011 when I got my first DSLR. I got inspired by my girlfriend. She really has a great eye for motives and details. So I was motivated by her to get better and better.
2) How much time do you spend on photography on average?
Because of my day job I shoot and process mainly on weekend. So, one sunrise and maybe a sunset a week, that would be 4 hours per week 🙂
3) Which gear do you mainly use / What is typically in your camera bag?
Nikon D810 with AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR, AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED and Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD lenses.
I use Lee filter system with 0.6, 0.9 ND grads and lee big stopper. Tripod is Slik pro 700 dx
4) How important is post-processing for you? Can you tell us what kind of postprocessing you typically do?
I import my photos into Lightroom, do standard adjustments (contrast and colors) then go to photoshop for cleanup (poles, wires dust etc…) and then I sharpen my images.
5) What’s the favorite photo you took and why?
It is my shot of Pernica lake it got me on the map in my country so to speak 🙂
6) What’s the most challenging part of being a landscape photographer?
That would be getting the right composition right there on the field if you mess up it can costs you an image.
7) Do you have general advice and tips for other landscape photographers?
I would say to all who are starting out, be patient and don’t give up.
Read photo books or take online classes, learn and shoot. In time you’ll get there.
8) What was your biggest accomplishment? (Awards, Publications, Exhibitions, Cooperations, etc.)
I’m most proud of my first fiap gold medal in international Hoylake contest from the UK
9) Who or what inspires you to do what you do and why?
Nowadays I challenge myself to get better and better in photography because I just love photography.
10) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
If I knew 10-15 years back that I could be that good at photography I would start it way sooner 🙂
11) What are your future photography goals?
To improve me as a photographer.
