The evolution of technology has no doubt changed the game of how we interact with each other and network as businesses and individuals. Social media platforms have now become a topic of discussion not only for big business but also for business owners as it is the easiest way to reach various individuals in this day and age. Today I wanted to discuss something that has been introduced by Instagram for a while now and it’s safe to say they copied the idea from Snapchat as it is similar to the Snapchat platform in many ways. This feature offers many options in regards to filters, fonts and more for your pleasure. However, it serves a bigger purpose that some think is actually more powerful than a lot of people think as well.
Instagram stories are quick 15-second clips that can easily grab the attention of anyone on a break, walking or even in traffic. This challenges creatives and bloggers like myself to find new ways in which you can grab the attention of your viewer and attract more viewers in the process. In this article, I will be sharing you some of my personal tips as to how you can improve or create amazing Instagram stories for your viewers’ pleasure.
This has been something I’ve shared with friends and many other creatives like myself. As time went by and I was not only observing how the Instagram platform works but I was also running a few tests here and there, I noticed that using the camera within the application will result in pictures and videos with horrible quality.
Instagram has been notorious to photographers and videographers for its unapologetic images and video compression once uploaded. This encouraged a lot of photographers and videographers to figure a way as to how we can get around this happening until we began to just upload images and videos in higher quality so once it’s compressed, it will still hold some of its quality. For example, if you have an iPhone 7 or one of the latest models and shoot your videos in 4k resolution, it will probably look like 1080p or 720 on your Instagram story which still isn’t bad. Therefore, stop using the camera in the app is the first step towards improving or creating better Instagram stories.
In addition to capturing your video and images outside of the Instagram app, I would advise you edit outside of the app as well. This isn’t to say that Instagram doesn’t have good filters and some cool bells and whistle but they’re not exactly the best things to use on your image or videos. Also, the filters used on Instagram aid in decreasing the quality of whatever it is you’re posting. There are some pretty amazing apps available for free that will be of great help in improving your content.
One of the apps which is a new personal favorite is video leap. This app is perfect for making some pretty stunning clips and utilizing those 15 seconds given to you by Instagram. The app has the potential to combine as many clips as you would like into one video and edit them either individually or all at once. This editing consists of various options such as adjusting basic light settings such as exposure, contrast and more.
Thankfully it doesn’t stop there as the app also offers an array of filter options for your video and gives you the freedom to adjust the intensity or opacity of each you choose. Just when I thought the app was amazing enough, it also your option of exporting your video in whichever format you feel is suitable. It offers a format of up to 4k when exporting and if you ask me, that is pretty impressive.
If you’re looking to take your videos to the next level and make them that much better, I would recommend looking at mobile gimbals. This will help you create some pretty amazing clips not only for your Instagram, stories but also for Instagram TV which has been becoming popular lately. Gimbals are fairly priced and you should be able to find on an Amazon that doesn’t put too much of a dent in your bank account.
Investing in your craft and branding yourself properly on social media platforms will increase your network in ways you didn’t think possible. There are over 300 million users on Instagram and I’m pretty sure that number is growing while I am typing this. More viewers will look on your Instagram stories before going to your actual page due to how Instagram has done it’s set up. Therefore, invest time in creating great stories so you can grab the attention of the right person and take your career or brand to another level. You never really know who might see it.
