Jack Montgomery is a photographer living on the coast of Maine but photographing in France, Belgium and Italy among other places. His focus is portraiture, landscape and interiors. His portfolio includes a wide range of photographic studies including young people coming of age, New York firefighters after 9/11, Holocaust survivors, transgender youth, fetishists and judges. He works both with film and digital cameras, outputting to traditional processes (palladium and cyanotype) as well as ink jet printers. Jack’s work has been exhibited extensively and has been used for book covers and other publications. A monograph of his photographs has been published in several editions by Galerie Vevais of Germany.
“Photography is, for me, a means of personal exploration. I photograph to understand the world around me as well as to access my own internal life. It is not a commercial venture (although I am very happy to sell photographs and complete commissions). There is a spiritual aspect in all this. Some of it I understand, but to a large degree I surrender myself to a non-verbal, non-lineal side of my being and I find that most satisfying.”
